Just Brilliant!, 2009-01-08 Comment: I bought this for it's MP3 capability and amazing touch screen, but it's so much more than that. It's also an excellent hand-held games console, personal organiser, movie player, web browser.
Wi-Fi connetivity is very good and easy to set up. Should be available in more and more places on your travels, but even just around a Wi-Fi enabled home is very useful.
iTunes system works well, and previewing/downloading music straight to the iPod or via the PC is great.
There are plenty of quality games available that make use of the touch screen interface and sometimes the tilt facility. The large screen makes them look really good too. Very easy to download, just like music or video.
The touch screen is a revelation! Firstly it's so clear and large for a handheld device. It can take up almost all of the front of the device as no room is taken up by lots of buttons. It makes the Touch very easy to use as it's just a case of tapping options that you see coming up on the screen. The touch functionality is incredibly innovative. Tap your finger to select, drag objects by sliding your finger across the screen, use two fingers to drag the screen around, slide your fingers apart to zoom into the web browser then back together to zoom out. On top of all this the tilt feature knows which way you are holding the Touch, so the whole screen orientates itself into portrait or landscape.
There's so many well thought out features on this I could go on and on. But one more thing... consider getting the largest memory you can afford. I'm already wondering if I should have bought the 32Mb version to add more games, video clips and movies!
Lovin' It, 2009-01-07 Comment: I am lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' it, the design is sleek, chic etc. You do need an i-tunes account before you can sync in your i-pod, very easy to sync into i-tunes. You also need wi-fi access to download any applications, it easy to connect to a wireless network and download the applications I now have 'Facebook' and a radio application, I can now listen to Galaxy, Choice FM, Capital and a couple more that I can't remember.
The only downside is the high gloss finish of the i-pod as soon as you touch it you leave fingerprints on it and I am always wiping it, I am investing in a cover for it so hopefully that will elavate this issue. Don't let it put you off though, it is still worth buying and I would still recommend this item to family and friends.
Overall I am very impressed with my i-pod it never leaves side.
Queen of iPods, 2009-01-03 Comment: I bit the bullet and bought the 16gb iPod touch which arrived last week. I am a bit of a gadget freak so it was unsurprising that I would eventually buy myself this new addition to the iPod family and am I thrilled? YES! I am. Now wondering what to do with the Blackberry. Since I spend time overseas the idea of having free email and internet access was a huge plus but then having pretty much all my music on tap and being able to access the Apple store whilst on the move pretty much clinched it for me. If there is one small almost insignificant gripe it would be that the 'Genius' facility tends to work best if your musical taste is less diverse than mine. When I pick a song, my Genius fails to compile a playlist because of a lack of similar tracks...aside from that, buy one, it's fab!
great product shame about Apple's in-built obsolescence, 2009-01-02 Comment: What it can do is amazing (well if you have wireless broadband - its not for roaming!)
What it cant do though tells more about its parent company and they're lack of regard for customers. Like the fact that if you have a charging dock/ car-charger/ foreign adaptor or even they're own Apple Speaker(!!) from a previous Ipod, dont be fooled into thinking you'll be able to use any of these devices to charge the battery. No, they've quietly got rid of firewire 12v charging and moved to USB 5v charging only with this model.
And on that note they're products are designed to last 2 years and a day before dying and the need to visit an expensive Apple Service centre - let me see I've got through 3 ipods, an Imac and an Airport from these guys, and while yeah, you'll probably want to upgrade anyways in two years, in-built obsolescence is surely now part of their plan for world domination, its not like anything they build is user-sevicable!!
Grrr
a great gadget, 2008-12-31 Comment: my old 2nd gen nano was begining to show it's age with shortening battery life and almost full memory, so i decided to replace it. of course i went straight to ipods, because i wouldn't choose anything else after the years of faithful service from my nano. i spoke to a friend about what one i should choose, and he had one of these, i tried it and i liked it, that is what made me make my decision.
well, what can i say, it's a fantastic product, made by apple, which means all the usual things, it only syncs from itunes, and it is quite expensive, however, it does come with the traditional apple selling points, it looks great, and the controls are very intuitive. aswell as this the cover flow is a cool feature that has been included. there is also browsing and google maps via a wi-fi connection.
now the device it's self. the device has a multi-touch display, which allows it to recognise more than one finger touching its screen. the "menu" button from the click wheel is now the small white square below the screen. the volume is now controlled by a switch on the side or via the screen by dragging a button across the bottom of the music screen, similar to how it was done on previous ipods, but without the wheel, play/pause, forward, and rewind are control on the music screen like volume. there is also a small speaker in the device, which, for a device of its size is good, aslong as the volume isn't to high the sound quality from the speaker is reasonable.
if i do have one complain it is that the screen becomes very dirty with finger prints etc very easily, but apple seem to have thought of this and have included a cleaning cloth.
