I've had my Sony MZ-N510 Blue portable Mini-Disc player/recorder for 5 years and it's still works perfectly since the day I bought it. The sound quality is how you would expect from a well-known brand like Sony, clear and precise. The display is clear and is useful for telling you how much life there is left on the battery that you're using. The sound settings are a nice touch, for adjusting the treble or bass to suit your taste to get the sound that is perfect for you!

There are four different recording modes for songs on the Mini-Discs like Stereo, Mono, LP2 & LP4, however for clear sound quality on all recordings I use stereo when I want to fit more songs on one disc I use LP2 because 1. The sound is stereo and 2.I can double the recording time on a disc whether it's 74 minutes long or 80 minutes long. LP4 is useful too but the sound is half-mono and half-stereo, but I prefer recording at LP2 speed.

This walkman was worth every penny and was one of the best things I ever bought at the time for listening to music on. Although, I have lost some of the extras it came with it like the battery carry-case, the original pair of earphones and there is certain wear & tear like the clip on the back of the remote has broken off, plus the name "Sony" on the front of the remote has nearly faded. I still have the carrying-case for the walkman which protects it to a degree!

life revolves around compramise.

You can have a 20gb iPod and get 1000s of songs on it but you will experience terrible sound and poor apple quality

on the other hand you can have a sony hi-md player. Because it is a sony product it will last until eternity and a day. The sound is 10 times (really) better than any mp3 player even with £100 headphones.

Mini disk players can also record from line in which i find useful for recording from the radio of a movie soundtrack.

Hi-md can do this but they can also sync with a computer using sony's sonic stage ( i use 3.4 but it comes with 3.0 ).

Hi-Md s can also store data and connect to a computer through a usb type b to a cable and is recognised as a portable flash drive. no software needed.

Overall

Another great quality sony player that has more than one use. But it excells at all of them.

I think mini discs are great, you can load up to 320 mins onto one disc and I don't think the quality suffers too much. It was received in a few days in pretty much brand new condition and there were even two free blank discs. I have loads of music on about 20 discs which would have been lost. Battery life is great - what is not to like.

The MiniDisc has always offered high-quality audio recording and playback in a portable unit, but the format has never achieved mass-market status like other portable audio products. However, things may change with Sony's NET MD range. Bringing together the power of MiniDisc with the versatility of MP3 digital audio, the Sony MZ-N707 Recordable Network Walkman could redefine the way we listen to music while on the move.

I have had this beauty for 24 hours and I love it. Even a non-techie like myself found it easy to set up and the Jukebox is a cinch to operate. Sound is fantastic, but do yourselves a favour and buy a set of Sony MDR EX70 headphones for a true sound experience.
However, the jukebox will not allow you to record every CD track because of 'copyright' issues. Despite the fact that downloading music from the web is illegal, it can be a much easier way of dowloading tracks. Oh, and converting mp3's to the ATRACK (sic) format takes a long time, but you could set up a list to convert and watch TV in the meantime.
And I am no longer stuck with big handbags to carry around a bulky personal CD player!

I bought this product as I already have a Technics MD player as part of my system but no facility to listen to my Mini-discs elsewhere. I was glad the player was well protected in packaging on arrival and ripped at the parcel straight away. For those who remember the first personal MD players I can offer re-assurance that the battery is not the huge re-charge type, - 1 x AA battery is all you need and this lasts a very long time! The build is delicate on the inside but then MD players are delicate. The sound quality is very good and there are some very useful features - for the price I almost seem compelled to buy another just in case Sony stop making them, - I love it, - it's a great little product!!

I had one of these, as well as a much more expensive top of the range on with a mic input (for other purposes) anyway I this one beats my other one for volume and chunky sound.
I think that it's aa battery compartment is far from a weakness and much more of a strength, I have listened to tons of devices which are powered by lithium cells and they all sound pants in my august opinion.
I have been told by someone recently that a few years back EU regulations stipulated that the decibel level of music cevices had to be regulated, I have a hunch that this piece of kit was sold just before that happened.
It even works well with very large headphones to give you massive sound while on the go.
And lp1 and lp2 sound absolutely incredible.
I am also surprised that these things are not more expensive at the moment, and have a feeling that one day they might be moreso and extremely sought after due to their independance from a Computer.
I lent one of these to a friend and now regret it.

Got this MD player for my birthdat last year. It's great. There is no other word to describe it. It does what it says it does. All my friends think it's good, and one even went and bought their own. My only critisism is that Sonic Stage (a program you have to use to transfer songs onto the MD)is rather slow and a bit confusing at first.
