Sony
    good sound, 2010-02-11 plus points
nice and neat
good sound
robust (has been dropped a number of times and suffered no damage)
it can be locked in play mode (I like this as when my son uses it I can stop him turning up the volume)
It stays charged for a long time
minus points
not easy to put tracks on (you must install SonicStage and my disc would not install and needed to be downloaded off the internet)
cannot sort using the MP3 player, must go through SonicStage
A bit fiddly to use

Value for Money, 2006-09-09 This is a cheap, cheerful MP3 player that does the job. Some reviews suggest it is fragile but my kids have knocked these about without any ill-effects. The headphones are not too bad, although with all MP3 players some decent Sennheiser in-ear phones and transferring to the highest bit rate will make significant sonic differences

Does what it says on the tin, 2009-05-15 Bought one of these as my first MP3 and was very happy with it. Once I ran out of storage space (pretty quickly) I upgraded. Looks good, easy to stick in your pocket, easy to use and control; a great starter MP3.

The perfect product?, 2008-07-07 I've read the other reviews of this little MP3 player and can't believe the wide range of comments written. It all goes to show, I suppose, that subjective criticism can give you completely differing views of the same piece of kit.
I'm angry with myself for only buying the basic 512MB version of this player. When I first heard it I couldn't believe the quality of sound I was listening to. The supplied headphones are better than most freebies, but when you get serious with some upgrades - and we're not talking silly money here - you realise how well these players can perform. This is where it gets subjective, but all I did was tweak the bass up a little, and the treble too but a bit lower than the bass, and enable the higher volume range ( so it could go up to "30" instead of "20" ) and listen through some Sennheiser MX500s or Aiwa HPV743s, and I was rewarded with a sound I thought superior to anything I'd heard from an iPod, Creative, iRiver, Sony, or Rio. The bass was tight and clear and the treble controlled and precise. In-ear sound canals worked well, too, like Sony's MDREX71s or Sennheiser CX300s. I even tried Shure E5Cs and Westone UM2s, and while it's ridiculous overkill to use high-end monitors like these with a cheap MP3 player, they showed the sound quality up nicely. I've no doubt that everyone who takes the trouble of writing a review believes they are being helpful, but when I see an adverse criticism of the sound quality of the YP-U2 I feel I must try and redress the balance with my own, albeit equally SUBJECTIVE opinion. At the end of the day, wouldn't it be nice if you could walk into a shop with your own headphones and listen to these players before buying?
Samsung have now superceded these gems with the YP-U3 series which I haven't heard, but I know they are attracting negative comments about their touch-sensitive controls being too easy to knock while the player's jostled in a pocket. Isn't it annoying when a brilliant product is produced for only a short period of time before being "improved"? I shall be trawling Amazon and eBay for 1GB or 2GB versions before they all disappear!

excellent, 2009-10-08 Contrary to another review it does have fast forward/rewind. software seems easy, intuitive and straightforward.
Only gripe was that on first use it didnt quite work properly but everything seems to be fine now once I pressed the reset button.
Excellent value and recommended
