I read a lot of reviews on this item before making my purchase as, other than I-Pods, I had no idea what to look for in an MP3 Player (and I refuse to buy Apple products due to their policy of making it as difficult as possible to use with anyone elses products). This player came out on top by quite a way and I still feel I have made the right choice!

This is significantly cheaper than the equivilent I-Pod and in my opinion serves exactly the same purpose. I use this for music only, I have no need for a mobile video player so I cannot review that element.

The sound quality is excellent, I have used it with headphones, an FM transmitter in my car, with a Sony Home Cinema and a JVC Stereo and the sound quality is at least equal to any other device (including I-Pods) I have used on any of these systems. The Controls are easy to use, even when mounted on my dashboard and the display is easy to read.

If I had any criticisms of the system it is that large playlists (I'm talking 2000-3000 songs) take a while to load, which is hardly suprising really, and the finish is a little cheap looking. However I was well aware of these issues before making my purchase and have actually found them to be less so than implied in some reviews.

All in all this is an excellent little MP3 player, an equal to the I-Pod in all but appearance with the advantage of both being significantly cheaper and not being made by a corperation with plans to take over the world.

Sony NWZE445B E Series 16GB MP3 Walkman with Voice Recording Function - Black

Good player, feels less solid than predecessor, 2010-03-15
Bought after losing my NWZA818 - which was then found, enabling a side-by-side comparison.
1) Sound quality is just as good, but the newer NWZE445 does require several notches higher indicated volume to achieve the same actual volume. Switch to the radio on the NWZE445 and it sounds louder than recorded music at same volume setting (tried this on several tracks from different albums, so I think it's a real effect). Switching headphones between the players had no effect on perceived volume (or sound quality).
2) The NWZA818 headphones have rubber ear-buds, which I find give a more secure fit. They also might block out slightly more background noise, although the difference is marginal. Since the NWZE445 'phones don't offer any improvement in sound quality that I can tell, I prefer to use the older 'phones with both players, because of the fit issue.
3) The older NWZA818 feels more solid. I have a rigid clear plastic case for the NWZA818 which provides good protection, but haven't found an equivalent for the NWZE445 - I think it could do with one.
4) The bundled software was not on my NWZE445, for some unknown reason. I downloaded the Operation Guide from the Sony website but have not bothered with the Content Transfer software; Windows Media Player, or even just Windows Explorer, enable straightforward file transfer so there doesn't seem to be any need for Sony's own.
Verdict: A decent player, with good sound quality and battery life, but which doesn't feel quite as solidly made as its predecessor.

I upgraded my nano to this one and it is brilliant much more space, added a couple of videos and the display is very good. As always easy to use with a great sound.

Sony NWZS545B S Series 16GB Walkman with Built-In Stereo Speakers - Black

Purchased the Sony NWZ545B 16 GB with the built in speakers, easy to use did not take long to put on over 1500 tracks. Very pleased at what you get for the price,have not added any video to date still early days, the radio is a little poor but did not buy it as a radio. I would recommend to anybody looking for a good product from a well known and reliable manufacturer. Fast delivery Very pleased.
