I recently bought the 450D from Amazon with the kit lens and it arrived about a week after ordering. To be fair, it did say it could take a couple of days longer than normal.
The reason, presumably, was because it was sourced from France and it arrived with no English documentation whatsoever!
However, I immediately emailed Amazon and within an hour someone from customer services phoned me to say they would contact Canon to get the English documentation to me.
Unbelievably, it all arrived the next day from Robert Scott, the publishers of the EOS magazine to which I now subscribe. Fantastic service.
Incidentally, I am very happy with the camera so far, but I have had little time to get to know it really well.

A novice, upgrading from a pocket digital camera, I have yet to come to terms with what the 450D can do. It is easy enough to handle, and its quality is good. The included lens is perfectly adequate for my needs at the moment. Additional lens kits can be purchased separately. My only grouse is that the camera package arrived with instructional booklets in French, Italian and Dutch, but not English. By the way, a memory card is not part of the package and should be purchased separately.

My first Digital SLR purchase and I have absolutly no regrets. Recommended by all my camera buddies. It is as simple and as complex as you need it to be. Have started using some of the manual settings already. Of course you will have to purchase a telephoto zoom as the kit lens is great but soon restrictive. Hesitate no longer.

Had this camera over 6 months now and am especially pleased now that I bought the Canon 50mm f1.8 which is when this camera starts to shine. Spent a lot of time researching this entry level DSLR and was torn between it and the Nikon D5000. One thing I've noticed now that I am purchasing other prime lenses for this camera (the standard zoom is really a non-contender, and I'm not an optic snob) is that now Canon is top dog in the market they have a tendency to knobble you now they have "got you". So while Nikon will add a lens hood, Canon won't, and it's pricy for a piece of plastic. Bar the 50mm f1.8 which is a steal, Canon prime lenses are expensive, and for example the price of the old yet excellent EF 35mm f2.0 was jacked up simply because it sells well. A cursory glance at similar Nikon prime lens on Amazon while I was researching Canon lenses seemed to tell me that Nikon did better deals, and I suspect it is still a two-horse race as far as lens quality goes. So while I have no problems with the 450D, I do have a problem with certain Canon marketing policies. Seriously, if you enjoy photograph in any way and you are set to buy a DSLR, good glass is always the next step even if you don't see it at the time of buying the camera (the tendency is always, I'll deal with that later). Key it into your buying strategy NOW rather than LATER, then make a global decision based on what kind of lenses you can get for your camera. Glass makes all the difference, despite all the specs of the body, it's like Pirelli tyres on a Fiat 127.
