Great for a child, 2010-03-04
Just a quick review to spell out that this is a toy for a child. Our 4 yr old had it for her birthday and loves it, makes her feel like a grown up having her own camera. I see various people have complained about the quality of the camera pictures (as the pic is 2megpixels I think), again, this is for a child, it's never going to be of the highest picture quality but it serves it's purpose! Also, show me a normal camera for this money that can be bounced across the ground as our daughter has already let this one slip a couple of times and it works fine.

Have no issues recommending this.

I cannot believe that this tiny little camera can produce such quality pictures and the 3.0"lcd screen makes life much easier.As you will have noticed, I`am rather chuffed with this piece of kit because it does`nt matter what type of pics you want it is so easy.If I was to pick a fault,it would be about the instructions--no proper book to follow things through only two disc`s which is fine if your young and got a good memory.If your old like me just play around with it and it eventually gets easier.Great product tho.Mike Green Leicester

I bought this camera last summer and just stopped by amazon to see how other users have found it. Having read a few bad reviews here i thought i should post one myself in it's defence. This is a brilliant little camera, and even more so for the price. My other camera is a DSLR and i bought this to mess around with underwater on holiday, consequently i have taken some of my best ever pictures with it. Granted, there are problems such as the screen is hard to see under water, but this camera has to be experimented with. Once you've got to know it's idiosyncrasies it's a joy to use and offers untold possibilities, from places you'd never imagined you'd be able to capture! And i've not even taken it into the bath yet!!!

The camera is a treat. Light, pocketable, easy to use, good low light and flash - exactly what my Mum was looking for. There is in-built memory, so no need for an SD card. I got one to throw in, as it might be a long time between "shoots" before my Mum uploads to a computer. Buy this camera with confidence.

I bought this item on Amazon during our heavy snow period (there was enough where I live for the college to shut and people couldn't use the roads much) late on 5th of Jan, i've today (8th) recieved my camera dispite changing the payment details and it being dispatched just yesterday! Very impressive Amazon, and the camera was great, the reviews all helped and it seems to be a fab peice of equipment :) I needed a camera that had a good lens and had the ability to take large pictures to help with my work (i'm doing a graphic design degree) and so far i'm finding it spot on for what I was after, it's not particularly fancy but it is user friendly and does the job well. The only bad thing i've found is the onboard memory - not great as you can only store 3 standard pictures on it, so a memory card is needed in addition.

I take photography pretty seriously and have a Nikon Dslr as well
My search for a compact that can capture what i want has been so far flawed which has included the Panasonic LX3.
The new EXR senser from Fuji has excelled any other manufacture attempt in compacts.
The Dynamic range is amazing and high ISO is fantastic, these are the biggest flaws in compacts.
The 10x zoom is brilliant and performs better then my Nikon 18-200VR lens ! ie sharper and much less distortion.
Getting amazing results out of the camera does take some learning but once you have you have too be happy.
Lastly normal operation speed blows away all the competition ie Zoom speed, Focusing and shutter lag.

Have been using the Canon SX20 for 2 mths now (£264.99 with £50 cashback). Was a choice between Panasonic FZ38 and this one, the FZ38 had good reviews but after holding the camera for 1st time, it felt light and cheap. So opted for SX20. Difficult to master at first, but having read previous reviews on here and tweaking the camera settings, the results have improved no end. Am very happy with camera, only downside was printing the manual which took a few hours, well worth doing though. If you decide to purchase you will not be disappointed, if you practise and decide what settings are best for yourself.

Does the job of much more expensive cameras by not having some rarely used features.
Quick start-up, good pictures, feels solid.
Only problem is the battery life and the time it takes to recharge the flash.

This camera is fully of features :- touch screen, front screen, face recognition, smile recognition etc and takes great photos, but are these fancy features worth the additional cost over other cameras with less bells and whistles but the same photo taking capabilities. I bought it as a gift for my wife, and she's overjoyed with it but doesn't know how much it cost.

Canon EOS 1000D EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (non IS) Lens Kit

I bought my 1000D a few months ago, and I haven't looked back.

Canon's 18-55mm lens doesn't get the best reviews, and it is designed as a kit lens. But i haven't got much against it. There was discussion about having IS lenses and image blur. But I haven't had any situations where i've got blur and not known where it's come from. In low light or for bigger zoom lenses IS is worth looing into, but for an 18-55mm lens it's not essential.

The body is solid and well designed. It feels like a quality product that won't fall apart in a hurry. The in-built flash unit is powerful and is even better than the one on the 450D.

The interface and 'software' is very user friendly and you will quickly find your way around and be able to manipulate all the settings. Even though it is simple to use, there are a lot of advanced functions that you can develop into using probably years after starting out.

The battery pack lasts a good month on one charge even with frequent use (including with flash) and the charger is well designed and not bulky at all.

Alhough the camera is pretty solid, you'll want to buy a camera bag pretty soon after you get it. That way you're prepared for rain, snow, dust etc. and you can carry it around much more easily. After looking through Jessops' range and trying bags out for size etc. I went for the Lowepro Nova 160 AW All Weather Shoulder Bag for Digital SLR - Black (Lowepro Nova range) and I would highly recommend these bags to anyone. I went for the 170 size which fits the camera with a zoom lens attached, plus an extra lens, flash unit, dustcaps, charger & powercable with more room to spare. The rain cover is very well designed and feels safe. Definiely a great bag for any SLR.

When uploading the pictures onto a computer, I use a card reader which is more convenient than using USB cables. The pictures are great quality, and can be zoom-ed or cropped to an impressive scale. I am yet to experiment with .raw format, but the camera is capable of that too.

Bottom line; A great camera for a first DSLR, the 18-55mm lens works a dream. Compatible with most Canon lenses, so expect to grow with this camera. The interface is user-friendly and straightforward.
