I purchased this as a battery backup for my mobile phone, as I use the GPS on the phone.
We were on a walking holiday in the Lake District and it worked really well.
I used a long usb cable plugged into the pebble in my rucksack out to the phone.
You can get 4 full charges from the Pebble before a re-charge is needed.
This is ideal for anyone out walking.

I have bought several cheaper portable chargers none of which has really worked with my iPhone 4.
This device works brilliantly certainly charging iphone 4+ times from flat.
No iPhone errors "This device is not supported" or disabled by iPhone.
One of the keys is the 5000mAh capacity high tech battery. Most other devices are at most 1900mAh using very cheap cells.
A useful other aspect is that it turns itself off when not in use. Which is particularly useful if other people borrow it and forget to turn it off after use.
Having all the various adaptors supplied with it is a bonus as the whole family or friends can benefit from it as well.
Build quality superb and a nice touch having the travel padded sock.
A must have accessory for the gadget enthusiast.

What a wonderful product. My husband and I both have smartphones which drain their batteries very quickly. This is a perfect product to take on holiday as we can recharge both batteries during the day from it and there is also enough left in the pebble to charge our sons' phone too. The pebble will daily charge all our phones on the beach and then we can recharge the pebble and our phones on the mains each evening so we are ready to go again the next day. I particularly like the fact that the pebble charges from its usb wire so that it fits easily into my iphone without me having to remove the cover unlike other charging devices I have tried. It comes with so many connectors it seems as though it could charge anything. It looks good, feels good to hold - and it works!!
the dream i've been looking for, 2010-08-02
I've spent lot's of time on those last hours before i got to sleep searching the web for what's the latest in iPhone accessories. Most category i look into is portable chargers and power banks. in the three years i've must have spent a fortune of money on these types of charges. i've tried all types (case chargers, charging cards, charging sticks, power banks) but NONE gave me the quality and result i was hoping for..! thats because the majority would simply not charge the phone long enough and the ones that did are so inconveniently designed that left me constantly worried about them breaking my phone or snapping with the charging piece breaking inside my iPhone.
the Pebble charger was the dream i never thought i'd find..! here is why:
1. not only does it fully charge my iPhone 4 FULLY from a completely drained battery, BUT, it does it FOUR TIMES. no no no let me repeat FOUR TIMES. and when i say four times i mean i would literally drain my phone batter the whole day and late at night, i would use it to charge my phone rather then the actual iphone charger. of course i would not charge the Pebble till its completely drained out of juice cause i wanted to count the number of times it's capable to charge my phone. i also made sure i never use the iphone when its charging cause i wanted a faire test.
2. its remarkably light and well designed that fits in my pocket perfectly without fuss.
3. It's got a power button, and LED indicator THAT WORKS and actually tells you the remained juice left, AND, it turns ITSELF OFF when not charging or when the device is fully charged.
4. It ACTUALLY have a USB socket so even when none of the 11 connectors it comes with would work on your device, you can simply plug in your device's USB connector and it works fine. You can only dream of such capabilities in other chargers.
5. if you're using the iPhone 4 with a bumper, like i am, then get it with the "CableJive" iphone/ipod/ipad short USB cables. they look EXACTLY like the original iphone cables that come from apple so they fit PERFECTLY while the iPhone 4 bumper is on.
what more do you want from a portable charger..!!? i simply can think of anything. ACTUALLY, i've been searching for the perfect portable charger for so long that i've gotten so used to doing it in my free time that now its difficult for me stop looking cause REALLY there's no need.
FOUR TIME GUYS :)
and all you got to do is charge the pebble overnight for approximately 9 hours. WHEN it runs out of battery... small price.

This is a great idea.
Like many people who own smartphones, you soon get used to the fact that they require a daily charge otherwise they last no longer than 24 hours before the battery goes flat. That is fine under normal conditions where you can charge the phone overnight and during the day when at work to keep it 'topped up'. It isn't so great when you go camping or on a business trip when access to power is not readily available.
I use my phone as a satnav but it draws so much power with the GPS, maps, graphics and audio announcements all at once that throughout the journey, it didn't actually charge up from the car charger, it just stayed where it was at the beginning - virtually flat. So when I got to my destination I was without a phone for the evening.
That was what prompted me to find the pebble. It works very well and has a huge capacity which gives my HTC Desire 3 full charges on the trot before the pebble itself requires a charge.
I do have just two criticisms of the pebble, or more accurately, the pouch and the various connectors that come with it.
1. All the connectors look slightly bent. When I tried to connect them all onto the USB lead, they all felt a bit flimsy and they didn't 'click together' with that satisfying 'clunk' the way other products do. I have read that others have had some issues with their connectors which the manufacturer has been happy to replace but that isn't the point. I have no need for most of them but when the time comes to bail an iPhone friend out of a tricky spot, I need to know the iPhone adapter is going to work - I don't expect to have to test them all out just in case one is faulty and has to be returned.
2. The pouch holds the actual pebble a treat but not the USB lead and all the connectors. It really would have been better to design a larger pouch for all the equipment because it all has to be carried together for it to be of any overall good.
I think a better design for the connectors would have been to create a very short mini lead with the connector on one end (properly moulded onto the lead) with a standard USB female connector on the other end (which is large enough to provide a solid, reliable connection). The retractable main lead can then be a standard USB to USB lead. The collection of adaptors would require a slightly larger storage space because of the short lead and USB connection but at least the quality of the connection would have been rock solid and therefore reliable. The pebble unit itself the needs a standard USB socket for charging and another one for charging.
An alternative improvement would be a moulded block with the various connectors on short flying leads and a solid switch on the block to switch the incoming power from the pebble to the correct lead. this whole until can be moulded to minimise the connector point failures. This would give two similar sized units which could be stored side-by-side in a similar pouch arrangement. The weakness is all the interconnections but otherwise, it is a lifesaver worth every penny if you need it.
