Amazon.co.uk Review
The Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse is a well designed, stylish and efficient mouse that will make a worthy addition to any desktop. This mouse is shaped for ambidextrous use, fitting comfortably in either hand. It features two buttons and a central scroll wheel. The silver and blue two-tone finish is complemented by the signature red glow that denotes this is one of Microsoft's optical range.

The mouse connects via USB, though a PS/2 converter is also supplied. The package comes with Intellipoint 4.1 software and is straightforward to install. It works with Windows 98 and all later versions of Windows. It's also compatible with Mac OS 8.6/9x/10.1. Unlike traditional mice, the Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse doesn't contain a ball. Instead it uses a high intensity LED and optical sensor to detect movement. This negates the need for regular cleaning and also provides greater precision.

During testing, the Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse performed well. It's comfortable to use, and precise. The buttons and wheel are responsive and accurate. Combine this with the durable construction and you have a mouse that is well worth the investment. --Jason Weston

I wanted a couple of mice for laptops, and couldn't decide between the Microsoft and Logitech, both about the same price on Amazon. So I bought one of each, which means I can now give you a comparison, in case you have the same dilemma! First of all, if you're irritated by mice which don't work properly, and, like me, you have to work in a variety of locations on some horrid desks, you really, really need one of these mice. They both do the job, perfectly. The Logitech is slightly more sensitive. It works OK on a 2mm thick transparent PVC desk protector, whereas the Mictosoft doesn't. I also prefer the look of the Logitech, which is black, more rounded and fractionally smaller. The Microsoft is more lit up, with red light coming from all of the base and the little red logo on the front, whereas the Logitech has a small aperture. The Microsoft has a 'waisted' shape, which some people might find a better fit in the hand, Whereas the Logitech is oval. My vote? Spend a few pennies more for the Logitech.

I found no problems in using this mouse, but I just can't stand the fact that its red led light stays on all the time. Even when the computer is switched off. It's such a pointless waste of electricity. why would I want to see my mouse in the dark if the computer isn't even switched on? I'd have to unplug either the mouse or the computer to get my bedroom to totally dark at night.

Let's be quite clear. The light on this mouse is off when the computer is off. Perhaps the reviewer who said it stayed on had put his pc in standby or something.

I have been using this mouse for a couple of years now and would recommend it. It's ergonomic and attractive in appearance. I have used it for long periods of time when doing graphics and photo manipulation without any discomfort. I find it responsive when doing precision work. I like the very soft click when the mouse buttons are depressed - just enough to let you know its pressed without being intrusive. I also like the fact that it will work on almost any surface that is non reflective although is will work easily on shiny magazines if your desk is a little cluttered like mine....it works on trousers legs as well as I sometimes use it when standing up to quickly alter something or click a link. I noticed some people were complaining about the red optical light remaining on - I personally don't find it to be annoying, in fact its useful as you can find your mouse easily in the dark when lots of paperwork is strewn over it. Overall - excellent, functional, aesthetically pleaseing piece of kit.
