Product Description Shia LaBeouf, Megan FoxDirector: Michael Bay
Amazon.co.uk Review "I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" deadpans Sam Witwicky, hero and human heart of Michael Bay's rollicking robot-smackdown fest, Transformers. Witwicky (the sweetly nerdy Shia LaBeouf, channeling a young John Cusack) is the perfect counterpoint to the nearly nonstop exhilarating action. The plot is simple: an alien civil war (the Autobots vs. the evil Decepticons) has spilled onto Earth, and young Sam is caught in the fray by his newly purchased souped-up Camaro. Which has a mind--and identity, as a noble-warrior robot named Bumblebee--of its own. The effects, especially the mind-blowing transformations of the robots into their earthly forms and back again, are stellar. Fans of the earlier film and TV series will be thrilled at this cutting-edge incarnation, but this version should please all fans of high-adrenaline action. Director Bay gleefully salts the movie with homages to pop-culture touchstones like Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, and the early technothriller WarGames. The actors, though clearly all supporting those kickass robots, are uniformly on-target, including the dashing Josh Duhamel as a U.S. Army sergeant fighting an enemy he never anticipated; Jon Voight, as a tough yet sympathetic Secretary of Defense in over his head; and John Turturro, whose special agent manages to be confidently unctuous, even stripped to his undies. But the film belongs to Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the dastardly Megatron--and the wicked stunts they collide in all over the globe. Long live Transformers! --A.T. Hurley

Transformers [Blu-ray] [2007]
Excellent viewing when watching Bluray, seem to see lots of little details that you coulnd't see when watching a dvd copy
A fine blu-ray!, 2010-09-01 This is what blu-rays are all about. The visuals and sound is just beyond awesome in this movie. Sure, the movie us just okay, a typical Michael Bay blockbuster.. but the blu-ray is splendid! One minor thing, too bad the UK blu-ray doesn't have a cooler cover/ no slipcase or anything. But still... a great buy!
Great fun Blueray, 2009-08-14 "Transformers" is great entertainment for any one with a sense of humour!
Its sexy over the top tongue in cheek action packed scifi with great one liner's and some adult orientated diaologue that keep's you awake with it's fast moving changes from hormone raging first date flirtations to hysterical moments of lunacy when the "Autobots" are talking through the windows to "Sam Widwickey" (main character) whilst trying to find something important!
Highly recommended, the most I've laughed in a long time!
Silly fun to watch with a loved one, 2009-12-31 Transformers is the typical popcorn movie, saturated in over-the-top special effects, silly gags and the usual type cast. It must be a pure coincidence that all three of the main 'human' characters are very good looking, clean individuals whom just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time - yet they manage to stop 80ft cybernetic organisms from annihilating earth in one day (possibly less than 24hrs).
So whats all the fuss about this time? Apparently, some mystical ancient 'cube' is propelled to earth from a planet in space inhabited by large robots, and was only discovered about 80 years ago in the ice caps. This is no surprise, as Hollywood seems to have a thing about snow and artefacts. Anyone remember Tomb Raider ?... Aliens vs Predator ?...
Cut long story short, the grandfather of the young protagonist Sam discovered this cube in the snow many a moon ago, only for lots of crazy special effects to whizz about and, in time, engrave a mysterious map onto his spectacles. Yep, thats right... And because Sam needs a few extra bucks in his wallet, he plans on selling these old items on the internet - name of website rhyming with "bee-day". A few long scenes attempt to develop Sam's character, but truth be told the perception of American youth is the same as always - all the guys have muscles that could crack nuts, and the girl he offers a ride home is most likely an ex-model.
It actually takes a while for the robots to fully intercept earth and rendezvous with Sam, discovering he is the owner of the spectacles through searching on "bee-day"... Oh dear god. Soon, Sam also discovers that, aside from the obvious bone-headedness of these robots, the mystical cube is needed back on the robots planet to bring peace and to avoid the destruction of earth because 'Megatron' (member of the enemy party) has anger management issues. For sure, all we know is that the cube is brown with tribalistic markings, and coincidentally, easy enough for a human to hold. Most objects of such a size and material would be too heavy to hold, since this is Hollywood the 'cube' must be made from styrofoam as Sam has no trouble holding it in one arm.
The leader of the good gang, 'Optomus Prime', rallies his other troops all with other signature colours to find the cube and for the rest of the film, basically pass it around a large American city (looking like New York) so that everything can be destroyed either by the robots themselves, or the U.S Marines who as we know, are very trigger happy. Particularly when given canons, rocket launchers, tanks, F-16's... With most of America practically annihilated anyway, Optomus Prime is very happy once Megatron dies and so serves the rest of his days watching over Sam and his new girl friend in the disguise of a flashy truck. The two have a child, they make love in the back of the car, blah blah blah.
The blu-ray itself is of everything I'd expect and very high quality - the sound effects really stand out, as do the transformations of the robots. Though the appreciate the technology that goes into making such effects, everything if truly over the top and its a miracle Sam remained alive. But maybe this was the intention? Who knows. A film is sometimes perhaps only as good as the way you perceive it, which in the case of Transformers is pure popcorn entertainment that has little consistency. For a "12" rated movie, I was surprised the handful or so of swears were let in, not to mention the way the robots often decide to kill humans. The range of jokes and the way they are integrated is also cringing - particularly when Sam's dog takes a leak on one of the robots legs, only for him to reply:
"This organism is trying to lubricate me. Hmmppff... Well thats going to rust...", among others.
The fact is though, when I first saw this in 2007, I was inclined to write a 1 star review because I considered it to be just another joke of a film with style of substance. But now I realise you can't take anything seriously these days because the entertainment industry is gradually becoming more and more post-modern again, so my advice is just sit back and disengage your brain... This is 'Armageddon'!
