Samsung CLP-315 Colour Laser Printer

Excellent printer at a bargain price..., 2010-03-10
My trusty Citizen Printiva 700 (microdry) printer broke down, so time to find a replacement...
The printiva was slow and noisy but produced brilliant results on super-smooth 4CC paper.

As a very light user, an inkjet was out of the question (clogging nozzles) and due to its price and small footprint, the Samsung CLP-315 seemed ideal.

It had a lot to live up to, but am pleased to report the quality of output from the Samsung is very nearly as good as the Printiva. Only small (6pt) print suffered from a comparable loss of definition (as seen thru a magnifying glass).
This is nit-picking tho - the output is very acceptable and the machine is far more refined than the Printiva.
I don't print photos, so can't comment on photo quality (I expect an inkjet would be better for that...)

For the best quality output, I recommend '4CC' 100gm paper* - brighter, sharper, and the usual dull mottled effect u see in laser solid black is virtually non-existent.
As with any printer, the quality/type of paper u feed it can make a massive difference.

Re running costs, the 'starter' cartridges are good for 1000/700 pages (black/colour) - it will take me years to run out of toner, but for heavier users, replacements are less expensive than other laser printer brands.
Samsung carts conveniently have a 'bung hole' to make re-filling a possibility (see utube vid) so running costs could be very cheap if ur prepared to risk it...!!

Amazon free delivery was faster than expected and u won't find a better deal for £100.

This is a fabulous bit of kit for the price,you dont need to use original cartridges as long as they are chipped,I even have printed some photo's which are very good quality,you can also print both sides!!
The printer is not too difficult to assemble once you put the CD into the drive it gives a step by step with photo's which you can pause as you complete each step,I am not the best but even I found it easy!

I first purchased a HL-2030 around 4 years ago as a personal printer for my office as a cheap alternative to a network based unit. I originally thought if it lasts a year then it was probably all I was going to get for £75. To be fair, this printer has been used extensively over the last 4 years and has never given any trouble (expect when I used very budget paper). I can confirm that this is a quality unit with long toner life. The first toner supplied with the printer is limited to around 1000 pages; the second has lasted 3 years and must be now close to 2000. I liked this printer so much that I purchased a second unit for home as a mono laser alternative to my HP CP2025 which is more costly to run in mono. If you are looking for a small footprint mono laser that does A4, labels etc then you really don't need to look further. The quality of print is excellent at 2500x600dpi way better than you would expect for the price. The paper try holds half a packet of paper around 250 sheets so you aren't consistently filling the paper tray. Warm up time is very quick as is the print out with around 15PPM. Okay, this printer isn't pretending to be a heavy duty office printer linked via print server and if that's what you need buy a bigger more robust unit. If you are looking for a cheap alternative to an inkjet that has excellent features and is up to the job then this is it. Just one word or caution, install the CD software prior to linking the printer to your PC or you may install a windows driver that doesn't offer all the features.

Excellent w-lan printing, 2010-02-27
Works great from the beginning. Easy setup. After you have configuered the w-lan settings (using the manual and your brain) it is printing from all computers. Very silent. Beautiful design. Reasonable price. Setup for scanning is a little bit more complicated but when you have done it it also works great. To make copies is quick and easy. For home users it is a very good choice.

HP Color LaserJet CP1515n Colour Laser Printer

Having read the reviews for this printer I decided to purchase one for myself. The first one I received had a fault is as much as it kept coming up with an error message saying there was a "paper jam in tray 2" there was no paper jam, then when I press "OK" it would go into an initialization sequence which would last about 30 seconds before then printing. Unable to sort the problem I contacted Amazon on the web to return it for a replacement and give Amazon their due, this was on Sunday, I booked a pick-up for Monday and it was picked up no problems with the replacement being delivered first class on the Tuesday! That's service! How's the replacement printer doing? Just great! I love it! The output is fast and top quality.

Don't be put off. Have just installed the printer pretty easily. Used both a DELL and a Mac. Instructions very clear. Did the first, wired, installation on the DELL but then my browser did not want to open the IP address (possibly because it is a work machine with some browsing restrictions?) so i switched to the Mac, got into the printers wireless installation very quickly, gave it the network name and the key and we were off... Will it work long term - only time will tell but the installation was fine. Have checked and it prints on both Dell and Mac. Just remember tho apparently you have to select greyscale when printing B/W in order not to deplete colour cartridges.

HP LaserJet P1005 Printer

OK, so it doesn't do colour, but since getting this printer I've realised that reliability and print quality are way, way more important. I have spent years trying to encourage inkjet printers not to smudge or misalign my prints. With this laser printer, every print comes out totally accurate - and fast. I used to spend ages trying to print labels accurately and now it just works. This printer is affordable too - don't be put off by the toner price, because when you consider that you only buy the one (black) and it does many more pages than inkjet carts, it works out to be pretty economical in comparison.
