Canon Canonscan LiDE 100400x4800 dpi A4 USB 2923B010AA Scanners Scanners
It's flat, it scans, it fulfils all me plans..., 2010-07-09 Alright. The 600 dpi option is handy if you want a really detailed picture though you get truly enormous jpg's that some software can't even handle. Colours are good and the bundled software is useful for touching up, for those of us who can't afford Photoshop. It's reasonably fast and autodetects picture size perfectly. It somehow manages to avoid the Moiré patterns that other scanners get with pictures from newspapers and magazines.
The OCR's quite good, though, like all OCR, it's never perfect.
Taking power from the USB port saves having a separate power supply and needing a spare socket, which is actually rather handy - no extra cables either.
Small footprint, it's only a little bigger than the A4 max sheet size it takes, and slim, about 3 cm.
Above all, it's about the cheapest scanner I could find yet it doesn't feel like any corners have been cut.
Recommended.

Toshiba
- Unique compact portable scanner
- Quick & easy way to scan 6" x 4" paper photos
- Accepts CF, SD, MS, MS Pro, MMC, xD Cards
- Connect via USB
Prime Purpose, 2010-07-19 For its prime purpose of converting original photographs to digital images (.jpg format) this inexpensive Toshiba scanner is marvellous - and it is simple to use. I compared the scanned images against initial digital photographs and though there was some loss of definition this was entirely acceptable; as was conversion from old black & white photos. Loading different sized originals was straightforward and it was obvious how to ensure there were no problems with calibration or cropping. My only difficulties were in connecting the scanner to my 9 year old PC on which its USB ports are suspect, and I am about to invest in a new computer. Also after transferring data to the memory card (not included) it did not register with my Sony camera - but the .jpg images had been successfully produced and registered immediately on my Hewlett-Packard printer which in turn linked automatically with my PC. None of these `difficulties' matter to me - the Toshiba scanner's prime purpose is to scan - and at this it excels and deserves 5-star rating.

Easy to use, 2010-07-18 I purchased as a Christmas present for my wife, who was finally able to scan her family slides from 30+ years ago.
Very easy to use and reasonably quick, can't fault it to be honest.

I LOVE this scanner!, 2010-07-24 I bought this to use during my animation production, to scan in hand drawn frames on paper. I had over 2000 frames to scan, and it never faltered and it never slowed down. I absolutely love this scanner. It's fast, it's reliable and it's easy to use. Thank you epson! :D

Excellent versatile printer, 2010-07-09 Rich feature set, eEasy to set up. This replaced a previous HP AIO that had given many years of good service but was starting to jam and stutter. Document feed and duplex very useful. Buttons to auto-scan-to-email and to auto-scan-to-file more problematic to set up especially to NAS drives, as there seems to be some protocol mismatch. Usual bloated set-up software, but on this occasion it seems to justify its size in terms of usability and feature set. Works well for mixed network of Macs and PCs. Make sure you place it on something sturdy, as when it gets going it tries to shake whatever it sits on.
Good buy, much cheaper here than Costco. Great printer to have on small office or home network, I am looking forward to the lower ink costs.

Epson
The name 'Perfection' says it all, 2010-07-20 A must buy for anybody that has a stack of old negatives and slides gathering dust. I have tested it out on 35mm slides, negatives (both black and white and colour), medium format slides and negs, and it reproduces them perfectly. Set up for the scanner is quite straight forward, and it is easy to get fantastic results with the minimum of effort, an added bonus is the Photoshop Elements 6 shipped with it (which on its own would cost about £40). I have just scanned some old half frame negs (half of a 35mm frame) which were taken in the early 70's, and they scanned well enough to get perfectly acceptable 10"x 8" prints from.
At high resolution the scan times are fairly long, but the quality is well worth the wait, certainly as good as from my dedicated film scanner (Minolta). The only critisism I have, though only a small one, is that the 35mm film carrier is very flimsy and I can't see it lasting long (I hope Epson sell spare ones), other than that I can find no fault with this excellant piece if kit.
