- Who said wireless networking had to be expensive?
- This is our budget USB 2.0 WIFI wireless networking dongle
- Performs as well as its more expensive cousins!
- Wireless LAN 11g USB Adapter - IEEE 802.11g - USB 1.1 or 2.0 - 2.4GHz - 2.4835GHz
- Works with MS Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista
Fab - But don't use the wireless program provided, 2010-03-15 With XP I found it best to just install the driver and NOT the provided wireless application which was pants and blocked the Microsoft 'network connections' from working. Instead switch on Microsoft's "wireless zero configuration" by typing services.msc in the 'run' command and scrolling down until you see "wireless zero configuration". Double click...click the 'start' button and you'll then be able to get the normal (microsoft)'wireless network connection' window to choose your network and enter your code etc. I'm very pleased with the performance of this little gem. Great price and very quick to ship.

Solved my Macbook wireless woes, 2010-03-17 I bought this originally to make my old G4 iMac wireless and it worked brilliantly - once I'd downloaded the latest drivers from the Edimax site - even though it was plugged into a USB 1.1 port. I recently bought a Macbook and initially everything was working fine with the wireless link-up to my Netgear router, but then I started to sporadically lose connection between the Mac and the router (I think it's something to do with the Snow Leopard OS, Airport and an 11g router, as my Mac mini running Leopard has no problems). I installed the Edimax Ralink software for Snow Leopard, plugged in the Edimax and everything works as it should - and it's very fast and reliable. The Ralink software kicks in at start-up and instantly finds and locks onto my network. I now need another one, but think I'll try the smaller USB stick for the Macbook and put this one back on the old iMac from whence it came.

Good router shame about Vista, 2010-03-17 My experience of this router is mixed, but not because of any problem with the equipment itself, rather the inability of Vista to recognise and connect to the Internet because it refuses to operate in anything other than local mode using wireless. For clarity about this issue try Googling - "Vista "local only" wireless" its a fascinating story.
Great for XP and connected immediately with wireless to both my company XP laptop, XP desktop and even my old desktop PC running Linux and performed really well both in terms of speed and stability even in the remotest corner of a fairly large house. Unfortunately after all attempts, including registry hacks, finding and installing Microsoft patches, updating wireless drivers and even reloading Vista from scratch on a newly formatted disk my wife's 4 month old Toshiba refused to connect. But hey presto loaded XP and all was sweetness and light, however my wife prefers Vista and some of her apps are not XP compatible, so the Netgear router had to go.
Thankfully upon returning the router Amazon refunded my money. Scores at the end of the day:
Netgear 10/10
Amazon 10/10
Microsoft 1/10 for Vista a truly useless operating system - no surprises there then.
