Good looks, easy to use, 2002-01-05 I always like to read the reviews so I thought I would do one for a change. As with most Sony products, they put allot of effort into their products looks, the DSC-P5 is no exception, it's small, looks and feels great and everytime you take it out you'll get lots of ooo's and aaah's, enough said.I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I've found it very easy to use, to take a basic pic I didn't need to open the manual, the controls are pretty much self explanatory. The pictures looks pretty good on screen (PC) but I haven't had any printed yet so can't comment on that. I took a bunch of pictures at a party with low light and they came out great, I've heard other people with digital camera's complain about this. So so far no complaints, a solid 4 out of 5... Happy clicking!!.
Great Pictures, OK digital video, 2002-03-04 I have owned this camera for 4 months and found that its picture quality is fantastic. At the 0.5MB a picture setting you cannot fault the detail even when displaying on a TV or large monitor. Contrast and colour quality is great and with a tripod night shots are also rewarding. To get the most out of the camera you should have at least the 64MB memory stick. Note that with high quality pictures, Email over a 56k connection becomes impossible (transfer times) and a high speed line (at both ends) or the use of a CD burner is necessary. If you are only going to use low detail pictures why buy this camera? The Video functionality is nice to have but quickly eats into memory space and isn't as good as a normal VCR camcorder. The ability to record sound is useful and easy on the memory space.
Brill!!, 2002-04-23 Just bought this camera the other day and it does exactly what it says on the box. The pictures are fantastic and thankfully Amazon included a 64mb card with it (the 8mb card ran of space after half an hour! - You cant help snapping those pictures). The camera has all the features you could want - a timer - four different effects (black and white, old fashioned brown picture, negative images and solarize!) - you can zoom in on any part of your picture (even once its taken). You can even pass the picture through your TV so everyone can see what you are looking at (great for a family photo when you put the timer on!) Taking pictures in the dark is amazing (having never seen this function before) the picture comes out as if it were daytime? Although trying to find the subject through the infra-red viewer is difficult. If you have the money buy this I cant fault it. Yet!!!
Incredibly Impressive, 2002-02-14 I have used 35mm and APS cameras before and always found them a compromise of sorts (camera size or picure quality). This camera is small enough to fit in my DJ pocket and produces good enough quality photos to beat many 35mm cameras. I showed it to a professional photographer recently who has a digital camera costing ~£2,500 and he was *very* impressed - almost to the point of being envious! The only thing I have done is upgrade from the 8Mb flash that came with it to a 64Mb one - able to hold about 40 *very* high quality photos, or nearly 1,000 low quality ones. The only thing stopping me putting a 5 star rating is not so much the battery life, which is about what I would expect, but the cost of a spare battery. The cheapest I have been quoted is £45. Even so, I would strongly recommend this camera.
First impression Sony DSC-P5, 2001-11-03 Whether to be used as point-to-shoot or make more sophisticated pictures, this camera won't dissapoint you. The picture quality is perfect without colour or geometrical distortion. The user interface is well thought of and is very easy to learn for everybody. The transfer of pictures to the computer is very easy too. The included driver software enables the camera to be used as an additional disk, allowing free transfer of information, even back to the camera! The mpeg facility allows clips to be recorded. The camera is very small, yet good to handle.
