Super Mario Galaxy is the BEST****, 2010-03-04 My 7 year old son loves this game to bits, loads of fun for all the family. 5 Star
Cool game with great variety and challenges, 2010-02-20 This is the best game I've played so far on the Wii. There is plenty of interesting challenges and you have the flexibility to change between galaxies and planets so it does not get boring and you are not forced to repeat the same things over again just to get to the next level like in the regular Mario Bros. Great fun!!!
Boring, total lack of direction throughout and reptitive., 2010-01-28 To summarise my review Super Mario Galaxy is extremely boring, fans of 'Mario 64' will be very disappointed and I would advise anyone thinking '..I'd like to try that' to take my word for it and not waste your money or time. While it may be slightly enjoyable for kids I would still not recommend it over any other game suitable for children. Kids will probably find it as equally boring as adults and the flimsy controls and shoddy camera system will undoubtedly result in them quickly becoming tired with the game like everyone else. Apart from the game play and controls being poor the visuals are totally appalling. I know wii games are 'more about game play than graphics' but there is no excuse for such piss poor work even when considering 2007 standards, on the plus side fans of the original will feel at home with this. I doubt that if the makers of the game were taking the product seriously (rather than just a 'cash in') they would not have intend the game to posses the visual capabilities of an N64 game. This game brings nothing to the Mario franchise apart from a sign that the art and story department are finding it hard to think of original ideas and not something they've already done. The only remotely good thing about this game is you get an extra character for Mario kart however the novelty of this wears of quickly when it is realised that not only is the character very similar to peach and daisy but is unplayable due to the floating star revolving around that gets in the way of your vision.
Those who want to know more read on:
The game begins with you 'navigating' through a small town outside 'peaches castle' surrounded by toads with the objective of a rendezvous with princess peach who, and I quote the toad, 'has a surprise for you!' Now I may have glamorised this scene, it certainty sounds a lot better than it actually turns out to be. You stroll through a VERY poorly rendered town with the same buildings only able to go one way. You eventually get to the gates of the castle when *Que pointless cinematic* Bowser appears with a fleet of very original looking ships and... you guessed it, kidnaps the princess (Predictable, old and insulting.) After some soul destroying scenes (I won't spoil it for you however I will let it slip that the cinematic involves a flying saucer) you wake up on a tiny planet with bunny rabbits (Yes that's right rabbits) who teach you the controls. These rabbits continue appearing throughout the game as they are stars in disguise, however why they are disguised as rabbits I don't know. After wining the stars trust by playing hide and seek two possible scenarios may happen:
1. You have the foresight to know exactly where this game is going (no where, for those interested in the answer) and make the wise decision of turning it off.
or
2. You stupidly think 'it could get better' and continue
If you choose option two you are greeted by a character who's design is very similar to daisy and peach. This character apparently is the luna god who takes you to their 'base' from which you will enter / unlock levels and gain stars. The maps are similar and repetitive. There is no direction to the game, I have a feeling that the makers thought as you progress you might want to go back and re-play the other levels however you won't. There is no reason to apart from wasting your time playing a repetitive level that you were glad to finish in the first place. This game lacks any re playability what so ever.
Thank you for reading.
Best game ever!?, 2010-02-07 If you like mario games from the past then this is for you, It will keep you hooked for weeks.
Brilliant!, 2010-02-11 This is a fantastic game and you just can't stop playing! Lots of very different galaxies and levels to complete. I highly recommend it!
