I have had this camera a few weeks now and it seems very good. Has a simple mode for quick snaps and various advanced levels with quite a large amount of manual control if you require it. The battery compartment cap is the only flimsy part of the camera I would give it 4.8 out of 5 as if you were very heavy handed you might break the cap.

Quite impressed. First time purchase of a webcam. Took some of the comments and then made an informed guess. Glad I did! Plug in load up and away we go. Had a awful picture of me but I supppose the camera never lies. Have yet to use in chat mode but if it works as well as it has done then brilliant.

Canon PowerShot A700 6MP Point-and-shoot Digital Camera

My choice as a bridge from small compact to DSLR, 2007-02-06
I am pleased with what this A700 offers me; point and shoot and easy to carry around or use additional lenses / tripod and manual settings when I want. I was initially looking at a DSLR but personally thought they were too large for my needs. Additionally I am a photo novice and find that I can read into some basic techniques (using the A700 manuals / photo magazine & book directions) and use this camera (and follow up with Adobe Photoshop) without getting bogged down in complex camera / picture set ups.

This is my route to enjoying photography, to give me PC / Digital Photo Frame content in addition to printed out / mounted photos.

Pentax K20D 16-45mm Lens Kit (14.6 MP High Performance DSLR With Integrated Shake Reduction)

Excellent camera, 2010-02-24
I've been using a K20 for nearly a year and I'm thoroughly pleased with it. It feels right, the image quality (with the right lens) is excellent, it seems solidly built and it's easy to operate. It's perhaps not the best for sports or fast action photography but for landscape/buildings etc it works extremely well. Going by image quality and the simple 'pick it up and try it' test (which is of course very personal) it was my preferred choice even though my budget would have stretched to cameras costing nearly twice as much. The only criticism I have is that it sometimes underexposes on fully automatic mode (which I rarely use), though it's fine on aperture priority and manual.

Another advantage of this camera is that it's compatible with all Pentax K-mount lenses, so there is a huge selection of glass available including the old manual lenses going back to the 70s. The standard kit lens is OK but a camera of this quality really deserves something better such as the Pentax 16-45 or 17-70, or possibly the 16-50.

As a PS, I recently had a chance to compare this camera with a Canon EOS7 + 17-85mm lens. My comments are still the same as above - the Canon has some features lacking on the Pentax that the 'action' photographer will appreciate (and it has a movie mode), but the Pentax still has the upper hand on image quality plus it feels better made and sits in the hand more neatly. I'm normally shooting with a DA16-45 or FA24-90 lens which admittedly tend to get a better review than the 17-85 Canon. I see there are still a few examples of unused K20s about (Aug 2010).

I was really worried about going down the "character" camera route,as ultimately i wanted my 8 yr old to take good pictures, not just look at the design.However i was pleased with the camera, it is small, easy to use, very appealing and similar in features to other makes at the same price.If i have any reservations at all they would be: no real instuctions included. You still need to add on cost of memory card + case. It eats batteries for a pastime. Overall it's okay for the money.My daughter loves it and although i could have bought something more child friendly (ease of use, it's v.easy to get camera shake)the Hello Kitty branding did it for us!I wouldn't buy it for a child much younger than mine as it's not been designed for "little hands"

Olympus FE-120 / X700 Digital Camera

A neat little camera for new digital users, 2005-12-21
I got the camera going in next to no time; it takes standard AA batteries (supplied). Oddly, the quick guide omits to tell you how to put the memory card into the camera. I've only had the camera a few days so some other quirks may become apparent later. There is a comprehensive user guide on CD-ROM. A cable is used to connect the camera via USB to your PC, and there's software to enable the transfer of pictures. The camera is easy to use, and has lots of advanced features including night photography which I doubt I will ever use. It's straight-forward to review your photos on the camera's screen and to delete the rubbish. If you go ahead and buy, do get a bigger memory card to store more photos. Otherwise, its a neat box of tricks. If, like me, you were brought up using 35mm films some years ago, this is a pleasant introduction to 21st century digital photography.

Brilliant Photos, Shame about the batteries., 2005-12-27
The Pentax Optio 60 give truely brilliant photographs - the richness and depth of the colours really do come out when taking pictures in the out doors.
When printing the pictures - they print up to A3 comfortably and the quality remains.

The camera has a good clear and bright screen - and is realatively easy to use for a novice - and has some more advanced settings for the experienced user.

However there is a major flaw in this camera and it lies with the batteries. During the day whilst your out and about taking picutres in the sunshine and daylight - without the flash - the battery will comfortably last for a good three days use.
However be warned - if you indend to take this camera on a night out - or to be used in dark indoors - then have a good supply of AA ready.
Its basically down to the flash that uses up the power - it is a very strong flash - that may give an explaination.

Overall the camera is very sturdy and is of a quality built - with a metal finish all over - that you don't find on many of the other 'plasticy' finished cameras on the market.

I was dissapointed by the issues with the flash - but as i have said - if you are looking for a good camera for throughout the day use - and possibly a small amount of evening use - then this camera would be perfect.

The quality of the picutures, for the price of the camera are definately the selling point!
