Nikon COOLPIX 3100 Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical]

By Nikon

Small enough to fit comfortably in the hand, the 3.2 Megapixel Nikon Coolpix 3100 offers 3x optical zoom, multiple scene and movie mode and a super close-up macro mode enabling you to take a picture just 4 cm from the subject. The Nikon Coolpix 3100 has gone through a detailed moulding experience to make sure everything is in the right place. The grip on the front gives enough to hold with one hand, while the indent on the rear is just in the right place for your thumb to access the zoom controls and review button without too much effort. The back also sports a 1.5" LCD screen, whi...

I must confess I didn't buy my camera from amazon, i actually got it from jessops(for £129.90).It is a fantastic camera which fits in a shirt pocket. I did not find a problem with the battery like other customrs after a couple of charges. I have taken many photos in 5"7" which look stunning and that was only with the medium quality picture. The optical zoom is fantastic, although the digital zoom is a little dissapointing. I recommen that you use sports mode or manual with image sharpening beacause the reaction is a little slow sometimes. the dial at the top makes it easy to switch modes quickly. The ability to change the images into sepia and black and white is very useful and easy to use. The movie is very useful for filming dolphins for example because when i went on holiday i found it frustrating trying to take pictures of them. I feel confident having the different scene modes, although i never use them. Use a reader writer to transfer images beacause its quicker. Nikon view is ok, but I think that you should invest in photoshop elements 2. I noticed that the image quality on tv is awful so if youre going to use the camera for presentations on a big screen you will have to connect your pc to the tv. The charger is very fast espeically for a free one, so the package is excellent

I have had this camera for 18 months and I have to say I am as impressed as I was the first day I used it!
Think about the functions available to you, use them wisely and you won't go wrong - this camera really is easy to use and produces great photos.
High ISO values produce excellent dusk/night-time photos but you may need a tripod for greater pics.
Battery life isn't as excellent as they quote, but I purchased a spare to give greater independence out & about.
Altogether excellent - I thoroughly recommend it!

Fuji FinePix F601Z Digital Camera [3.1MP 3.0xOptical]

Fuji FinePix F601Z Digital Camera [3.1MP 3.0xOptical]

By FUJIFILM

Fuji's F601 is the follow-up to the popular F6800 and has a wealth of options for avid digital camera users. Based around a vertical orientation instead of the usual horizontal one it will at first be unfamiliar territory for those used to a 35 mm camera, but once you've put aside your differences the images that the F601 produce are very good.

Fuji cameras sit in a docking unit, making wires dangling around the desk a thing of the past. This is a nice addition for the newcomer keen to make the transfer of files to the PC as easy as possible.

Working on the third generation...

When researching my first digicam, only two met all my specs - this and the Nikon CP4300.I handled both, but was seduced by the tough alloy body, style, compactness and video/audio capability of this little Fuji. Offering Auto,Scenes,AP,SP and full Manual control,it delivers perfect shots time after time.I always shoot at 3mp fine - I have never used the 6mp setting;you have to remember that bigger files take longer to load and use up more file space.I have successfully printed up to about A4 size.In short a great camera to travel with - but buy a 128mb card and a spare battery, then you can shoot 100 or so photos without removing the card at all.Back home, transfer of images to PC is a doddle using the docking station, and Finepix viewer is easy to use. There simply aren't many cameras in the sub-£300 bracket which can do what the F601z can.Sadly it is now discontinued!

Olympus Mju 300 Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical]

Olympus Mju 300 Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical]

By Olympus

Based on the hugely successful 35 mm Mju range, the Mju 300 Digital takes the styling that we all know and love (over 20 million sold worldwide) and brings it into the 21st century.

On the inside, Olympus's heritage in optics shines through once again as the camera boasts a superb, high precision f3.1/5.2 3x optical and 5x digital zoom (equivalent to 35-105 mm on a 35 mm camera).

On the outside, the camera has a 1.5", 134,000 pixel LCD monitor. The camera also includes a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and Olympus's new xD-Picture card technology. To protect everything the...

Had this camera over a year, always in my pocket
I dropped it in the sea once and it still works
so really is water proof (dont do that though)
Pictures are great, split photos (two in one)
panaramic photos (twelve pictures best took with tripod)
sapia and black and white photos and can change colour photos
afterwards on the camera itsself, do replica photos too
I bought a second battery (very cheap here)and they last the whole day and night, with flash, night vision but flash is good enough
Its a snap shot camera so if your a pro then no (buy a million dollar camera and complain about that) I've had very expensive cameras and still prefer this one
would give more stars if possible

Fuji FinePix S304 Zoom Digital Camera [3.2MP 6xOptical]

Fuji FinePix S304 Zoom Digital Camera [3.2MP 6xOptical]

By FUJIFILM

Styled to look like a baby S602, the 3.2 Megapixel S304 digital camera offers 6x optical zoom and a large 1.82 inch LCD. Being a 3 Megapixel camera with a street price of under £300, this is a good alternative to the Ultra Zoom range from Olympus, as well as, being a good value 3 Megapixel camera.

On the rear of the camera, the lack of buttons can be slightly worrying, and where most manufacturers are adding as many as possible, Fujifilm has scaled it down to only a few, mainly one to access the menu and another to change the display. This is a good thing for the beginner – ...

Camera is extremely easy to use. Excellent quality photos and good battery life. I bought a 128Mb XD card - over 200 photos in hi res. Optical zoom is brilliant, and you can even zoom in on the preview pictures.

A couple of niggles; when shooting in low light conditions it is very hard to make out the viewfinder, you can display this on the lcd screen but everything is very dark until you take the snap - the previews and resulting pics are good though.

Another niggle is a delay between pressing the shutter and the picture being taken (even the viewfinder freezes), annoying when you are trying to take a shot of a moving subject. Otherwise an excellent camera.

Amazon don't stock all of the extras for the camera, but the uk Fuji mail order web site is very efficient for buying spare parts etc. if not a bit on the pricey side.

I hope this review doesn't come too late, as this camera is technically obsolete by now...

When I came to choose a digital camera, I gave a deal of thought about what I would miss in my old SLR. I concluded that one thing would be those long lens shots, with their dramatic perspective, so I looked for a camera with at least a 6x zoom (200mm 35mm equivalent), which immediately reduced the choice to about two, and I settled on the Fuji 6900. And I've been extremely pleased with it. I've had it for about 4 months, and taken 1,000's of pictures.

The first thing you notice about this camera is that while it might look a bit big and clunky in pictures, in reality it isn't at all. The second thing is the quality of construction and how comfortably it fits in the hand. It looks and feels beautiful. Every time I use it, I enjoy it and look forward to it.

OK, so now you know I like this camera. What of the gripes?

The EVF (electronic view finder) isn't as good as an optical one. The mediocre resolution sometimes makes it difficult to see if the shot is accurately focussed. There is however a neat feature that magnifies the central portion of the shot to provide greater accuracy. But the benefits of the EVF (info display, TTL view etc) far outweigh its drawbacks , so I wouldn't change it.

I miss the remote control one of my SLRs has, and that other digitals have. Invaluable for taking pictures where the camera can be closer to the subject that you can. Like all features, you have to decide if it is important for you.

An external charger is not in my view a necessity, but a second battery is. If you are well organized and recharge flat batteries in the camera overnight, then you can survive without this extra charger.

Everyone gripes about the flap over the connections sockets on the side of the camera - well, yes, it could be better placed, but really it's no big deal. If that's the biggest criticism people can find, then congratulations Fuji!

Microdrives: The 6900 doesn't support them, but I'd concluded that this wasn't something I needed. Two 128MB Smart Media cards easily lasted me two weeks on holiday - as long as you are prepared to edit out the rubbish regularly - something you're are going to do with a digital camera anyway (take lots of pictures, trash lots of pictures). Microdrives tend to be power-hungry. Also, there's an element of "all your eggs in one basket", and I'd rather trust my precious pictures to the simplest, most robust technology anyway. Some people also gripe about the 16MB card that is supplied as standard. Agreed, it's a joke, but all manufacturers do the same in providing the bare mimimum, so Fuji are no different. Just accept it and go out and buy more capacity.

Bottom line: You have to realize that all cameras have their imperfections. You just have to decide if the shortcomings are critical to you, and would they put you off buying it. For me, there are no critical shortcomings with the 6900 and I have absolutely no regrets buying this camera. I still believe it was the best purchase I could have made with the money I had.

I've used almost every known make and model of camera from rangefinder to SLR but I have never come across such amazing quality and versatility as that of the 602z. It is simply outstanding with an easy to use macro facility which has delivered shots of a quality I have seldom, if ever, found in other quality cameras.

Have had this item for some time now. I'm absolutely delighted with it and when my Daughter-in-law saw it she ordered one also. Very simple to use and easy to install on computer. Results can vary according to which size megapixel you choose. I choose the highest so I can enlarge good piccies successfully and even sections of piccies. There is also facility for a short movie alas no sound but you can't have everything at such a reasonable price. Battery consumption can be high but choosing specialist batteries makes a difference. I always carry spares because the batteries can run out just when you don't want them to.

HP PhotoSmart 735 Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical]

HP PhotoSmart 735 Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical]

By hp

The HP PhotoSmart 735 compact digital camera offers an impressive specification, including automatic image enhancement and an optional quick-action PC dock. HP hasn't been given the credit it deserves for its range of cameras: coming to digital imaging from the computer side rather than from conventional photography means it isn't first in people's thoughts when it comes cameras. The PhotoSmart 735 shows again that HP should be well up there with the leaders.

A chunky but comfortable compact design, using just two AA batteries for power, this new camera continues HP's relation...

I just want to say I'm the kind of person who usually relies on disposable cameras as I've never really been into photography. So when I was given the HP photosmart 735 as a christmas gift I was surprised and immediately wondered if they had included the receipt. But curiosity got the better of me so I had a go.

I am now addicted to using it. Everything from the real-time LCD colour display on the back, to the way the lens pops smoothly in and out just oozes sophistication; and with the included USB cable, uploading photos to my PC and sending them to friends is remarkably simple. The picture quality is superb and the video camera function is pretty good too (although this is more of a fun gimick than something you would actually use for home movies).

I would recommend this camera to anyone, but I would warn them that thay also need to get themselves some rechargeable batteries as conventional ones last maybe 20 minutes.
