 Not what it says on the tin!, 2010-06-12
I bought these initially for the 5.1 surround sound but its definitely not 5.1 its 2.1, there is a button called matrix mode which basically turns on the other 2 rear speakers which tries to create a virtual 5.1 illusion but this fails epically, all it is doing is taking the front speakers and putting the sound at the back. The sound however is brilliant if your just after some bass for your PC monitor, DO NOT BUY THESE SPEAKERS IF YOU WANT SURROUND SOUND FOR YOUR GAMES CONSOLE!!!

Generally there is to much details that are wrong. Product looks great for the price - but a lot of details are wrong.
Pros:
- Looks good
- Center speaker LCD mounting clip - ok
- easy switch between wall mounting / desk stand
- matrix effect button gives mix of autio in all speakers - good
Cons:
- Bass - subwoofer not filtered - it plays (or tryes to play) high and medium tone sounds - poor sound becouse of that
- Bass - subwoofer is not deep anough - seen better and smaller at the same time - also from logitech so...
- cables - front speakers - much to short !!!!!
- headphones input surrounded by a plastic cover - if your mini-jack plug is a little fatter then You are not able to plug it in.
- general sound quality not best form logitech in this class - seen better from logitech before...
Very, very good speakers...., 2010-06-27
These really are very, very good speakers for the price. I have found nothing that can compete within this price range. Great for music and gaming. What else do you use them for? Buy some today!!!

To begin, I received a prompt and efficient delivery from Amazon (I live in the middle of nowhere too!)
These speakers are just fantastic. There's not much I can say that others haven't already said, suffice to say that if I'd paid twice as much I would still be delighted with these speakers. They ooze quality in design and build, they sound extremely good when set up correctly and paired with a half decent soundcard. I get so much pleasure watching films and playing games in 5.1 and there's nothing remotely bad I can say about the X-540. I have an expensive Sony 5.1 theatre system in my living room and the X-540's sound just as good which really surprised me seeing as I paid a quarter of the price for them! I don't know if it's the best deal in the world or that Sony overprice their products. But given that I feel my Sony speakers were well worth the money I would have to go with X-540's being the best 5.1 deal you can get! My only gripe is that Logitech do not explain that you cannot get 'true 5.1 sound from games consoles with the included adaptor.
Look around and see what's out there, but seriously consider getting X-540 as you will be so pleased that you did.
P.S. I am currently using these speakers to obtain 'true 5.1' sound from my XBOX 360. To do this I am running an optical cable from the 360 to my PC sound card therefore letting my PC process the sound for 'true 5.1'. This will work with the PS3 too and any other console with an optical output such as the PS2. Do not hesitate to ask me for advice on this, I will do my best to help you out.

Ordered on Tuesday night, came 8am Thursday morning, so quick delivery, thanks Amazon!
Took me about 20 mins to set up, wall mounted all the speakers except the centre one, and tried out my xbox first.
I loved the sound on Call Of Duty anyway, but then i realised i forgot to press the Matrix button, it blew me away!
i seen some reviews saying they dont like it, but i think its superb, Also set up on my pc as well now.. all in all a brilliant product for an amazing price! 5/5
