things to note about smc 595, 2010-07-19 I got my smc 595 a couple of weeks ago, since then I have been having great fun listening to and recording my vinyl
collection some of whitch I had forgotten I had.
The smc 595 is a great tool, a couple of points though first, 1, when using the track separater in manuall wich you have to when recording vinyl it is verry hard to get the pause just rite you either cut a tiny bit of the previous track end or a tiny bit of the start of the next track 2,The booklet is not verry clear on some instructions i.e.
at the end of side 1 when the last track is finishing if you use the track seperator then the pause button so you can turn the L P over the first track will be titled one in front, 5 tracks side 1 turn over track 6 is labeled track 7. Easy awnser is not to use track sep at end of either side use pause only. 3, I have fat fingers and the tone arm is quite delicate a dampend cue in arm would be great. Apart from these bits its a great bit of kit at a good price, I am lovin mine.

- Does exactly as the standard E516 "Carlisle" - PLUS - RECORD from your CD or record player to MP3 (eg using a memory stick/card)
- Record player plays LPs, 45s and even old 78s
- Cassette Deck & Radio
- Real wood cabinet with built in twin speakers
- Retro Nostagic design & optional stand. NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE STANDARD E516 "Carlisle" - This is the Encode version with MP3
Very happy with purchase, 2010-05-20 I bought this as a surprise for my girlfriend and she is really happy with it. I'd read some of the reviews on here before buying it and yes, the dials for instance do look plastic(because they are) but I don't think that this is a major issue- it is still a nice looking player and sits well in our living room. The volume is good and it doesn't need to be at max volume to be heard. We have used it purely for playing records, so as far as the cd/tape/mp3 side of things go, as yet I'm unable to comment on these. Overall though, it is a nice looking, good quality player that we're both happy with.

Sony
Finaly something simple!, 2007-10-19 i have owned this turntable from new for the past 2 1/2ish years, probably playing it a total of 4-5 hours a month. the turntable was bought to replace a bush turntable that seized up after 2 months and cut the grand canyon in one of my favourite records. in the last 2 years it has had no problems atal despite moving house three times. the stylus was replaced after about 19 months and was very easy to find thanks to the popularity of this unit (something to concider with "rare" turntables - the parts are "rare too!")
Overall I am very impressed with the turntable, it doesn't do anything fancy, it just does what you want it to do everyday without fail. Trying to find a turntable seems to have become unbelivably confusing in recent years with record players being replaced by "budget dj equipment", I am pleased to say that if you're like me and just like to listen to all your old records from time to time and have no asperations of being the next big DJ, then this is the record player for you.
Having a simple 'AUX out', it can be connected direct to an amplifier, your hifi (if u have an 'AUX IN' on the back)and home cinema systems.
for the most part the unit is very simple to use; you can select 45/30 rpm with the push of a button and the unit gives you the classic balance between fuly automatic and manual controls - you can either just put the record on and push the 'start' button and it will play through until the needle reaches the centre or until you push 'stop', or you can use the 'up/down' button to hold the arm over the record allowing you to move the needle to the song you want to listen to then release the button so that the neelde drops into place without causing a scratch and without the need of fiddling around with a counterweight at the other end of the arm.
The only thing that confused me about this record player when I bought it was the 'on board EQ' - the amplifier inside the unit; the on/off switch is located underneath the turntable drum and you access it via access holes in the drum underneath the protective matt - don't worry its all very simple, you have to inspect this area when you buy the player to connect the belt anyway. i assume the switch is all the way down here to stop you accidentaly switching it on or off during play and potentially damaging your equipment. i have found that the best way to play it is connect it with it turned 'off', play a record and if you can't hear anything but soft tinny rumblings, turn it on (you will need to turn it on if connecting to a mini/midi system)
This record player is fantastic value for money and the black with silver feet look means that it 'fits in' with a hole host of systems, especially sony/pioneer/kenwood. As another review stated you get what you pay for - no bells or whistles, it will just play your records, safely and accuratly everytime, for a long time.

- Built in amp with headphone jack
- Line output sockets on the rear to connect to another amp/hifi
- Stand alone unit (no need to connect to any other amp)
- Classic retro styling
- 3-speed turntable (auto stop)
Good product, 2010-07-15 I bought this to play some of my parent's old vinyls on as well as some of my own. The record player is attractive and easy to use. It is worth the price and creates a loud enough noise so you don't need to buy speakers to accompany it.
There is, however, several small issues with the product. There's a scratchy background noise created by the record player, however this becomes almost silent when the music is played at a decent volume. As well as this, the arm is manual - though this is no problem, you just need to be careful.

Get your vinyl on to CD with this great machine!, 2010-08-24 Finally a machine which is easy to set up (basically just plug it in); easy to use - instructions are clear and easy to follow; records both cassettes and vinyl to CD, which you can then import into Windows Media Player or i-tunes if you wish, or just play - and a machine which is not reliant on the computer or computer software. So you can put it anywhere in the house which is convenient to you. It records well and this is my primary use for it. As a record player/ cassette player or radio its performance is OK, certainly value for money, but I prefer to play back on my own hifi which has a better quality of sound (and which therefore cost considerably more). If you are looking to record your old record or tape collection on to CD then I would thoroughly recommend Steepletone's "Edinburgh Nostalgia". I have tried other recorders which have been awkward and dependent on software that is not always reliable as well as tying the user down to the computer, so this leaves them standing for quality of recording, convenience and ease of use.
