Okay as a starter amp, 2009-08-23
This amp is okay for a starter amp with the added bonus of ipod playback too.

For the critical listener though the amp is a little under-powered and struggles a bit to power my Wharfedale bookshelf speakers.

The sound quality also has a slightly brittle tone that can be harsh on the sibilants.

Lastly, the fan is a bit noisy and could bother you if you're sensitive to extraneous noise.

Great Value for Momey!, 2010-03-21
After an already good experience with the STR-DH800 this is my second Sony A/V receiver. Together with the BDP-S360 Blu Ray player and the RDR-DC305 HDD this setup is not only a joy to watch and listen to in action but it also looks stunning in Stand-By mode. Apart from the fiddly speaker connections setting up the unit was a "Walk in the Park". A nice plus compared with the STR-DH800 is the GUI which makes working the menu's slightly easier and switching this receiver on seems to be less noisy then the old DH800. All in all, Highly Recommendable I would say!

If you have a budget like I had, this little system is perfect, the connectivity on the back is excellent 4 Hdmi inputs and 1 out which carries video as well as audio which a lot of systems at this price only carry video so it cuts down on cables,another aspect I bought this for was the ability to connect a passive or an active Sub, as this cuts out any more power cables and passive speakers are cheaper than active one's, the slick design would suit any home, most of the buttons are behind a flip down front and the ones that are on view are feather light touch and do not stick out of the system and of course you would mainly use the remote anyway.Lovely clean sound,not too many preset sounds but what is there is good enough, and a bouns of an ipod dock that comes with the system,so overall this is a cracking wee system for the money.

This receiver is a add- on to my already purchased X-Fi transmitter and receiver, so I can now have a second set of speakers in my bedroom and be able to listen to my computer WMA music collection, it sounds great with no interuptions or interference from any other devices. Also I'm able to flick through the music tracks with the remote, change the music settings, increase decrease volume aswell has zone the speakers.

I bought this to replace a Roksan separates system as needed a smaller unit/ footprint. I must say that I have been blown away by the quailty of this system for the price. The unit itself is small and sleek, was easy to set-up and found DAB stations quickly. I used a memory stick with MP3 files anda agin, played without any problems, have also loadede the ipod to the aux sockets so all ceonnections active, within minutes. What is the most impressive feature though is the sound quality, I believe you cannot find anything better under 700 let alone under 400 ! buy it, you won't regret it

A first class product that works fine on PC or Laptop. Obviosly the supplied aerial is subject to getting a good reception, but attached to a main antenna, it is as good as your own TV. Easy to install and run using Windows mediacentre even better! though the Avery software works fine.
