I've been looking for something like this for some time and bought this on the back of positive feedback left on Amazon. It arrived in good condition, well packed and within a couple of days and I'm delighted with it. Not perhaps for the "technophobe", but if, like me, you want something that looks attractive and plays records CDs and tapes and has the benefit of a radio built in (it tuned in to radio 4 with no problem!) then it's for you. The tone is good and satisfied my expectations, and I consider it a good buy for the money.

I bought this as I was fed up of my husband's phone's tinny and annoying alarm tones in the morning (also feel better not having a mobile phone right by our heads in bed). It is a great little thing, fits in nicely to the wall in the corner. The cd does make a little noise but it isn't continuous and even when you can hear it it is so slight that you could get away with not noticing it at all. The radio is great, picks up our favourite stations and the alarm is easy to use. i think you can store 4 alarm settings in it which makes it easier to program the alarm according to where we're working the next day. The speakers are great and cope better than I thought for such a small unit. We are using it more than we thought - more than just an alarm, it's lovely having music in the bedroom and great to have the choice of ipod or cd. it's definitely going to give us the opportunity to rediscover our cd collection.

Arrived very quickly as usual.

Fired it up without bothering with the quick start guide or manual (on CD), plugged in a 16gb flash drive and a 1tb external drive with FAT32 and NTFS partitions, all loaded up to the brim with photos, films, home movies and mp3s.

Went away, made a cup of tea, came back and presto - everything's there. Navigation is ridiculously easy, and I haven't yet found anything it won't play (I've tried Divx, Xvid, mp4, mkv, m2ts, vob and mp3). It'll even cope with DTS soundtracks when played through a Digital amp - or can downmix to Stereo when not.

All in all, quite a box of tricks. They've even chucked in an EU power supply, so will be taking it on holiday to keep the kids occupied when it rains!

Excellent product. The CD drive on my Vaio laptop wasn't reading all of my DVDs, bought this item to see if it saved me carting it back to Sony. Worked straight out of the box, no problems at all, would not hesitate to recommend it.

This is a brilliant product. (keep reading!) The device asks you a few simple questions the first time you switch it on, from that point onwards your high-definition videos and music are at your fingertips.

The quality is, frankly, breathtaking. High definition content is rendered as sharp as a blu-ray player, and the playback is flawless. I have mine connected to a bravia television and a sony (hdmi) a/v receiver, and they work well together - 1080p video to the TV and 7.1 audio to the receiver was incredibly easy to set-up.

If you're planning on going anywhere near this device with SCART or RCA cables, you probably better off buying a VHS player. I've built Media Center pc's before and none of them beat this in terms of playback quality and ease of use. No more noisy boxes & hundreds of cables beside the television! It doesn't even have a power brick as the power supply is integrated into the unit itself.

I can't recommend this highly enough, it's a state-of-the-art bit of kit!

One month in...., 2010-06-20
I've had this unit for about a month now, and no problems so far. Don't notice the "lag" from the remote, and it gives superb results on my 46" Sony Bravia. Plays everything I've tried so far, including some that won't play on PC. Left it running for several days continuously and no real noise to speak of, so no problem being in the TV room.
Only moan - I tried copying files over the network to the unit and it is SLOW - almost an hour per DIVX. I have no idea why, but just gave up and used USB and it was fine.
This is replacing a no-name unit which broke, so the 3 year warranty is a plus.
It would be nice if when browsing for videos the music folders etc didn't show, but no real issue there.
Overall 5 stars - at arrived quickly and it does what it says on the tin - I'm happy with it.
