Brilliant Picture quality!, 2008-09-05
This DVD player has superb picture quality using HDMI and upscaling to 1080i but it also has really excellent picture quality using Component Out......I also have a Marantz DV9600 upscaling player which cost £1500 and believe me this player is not that far behind it.....With upscaling even black and white dvd's such as The Avengers from the sixties look really really good..they look pristine ..as if made just yesterday..glorious black and white......the differences between the Sony and the Marantz are quite small ..the Marantz has slightly more detail..a slightly smoother picture...easier on the eye when there is fast motion scenes..you get a greater sense of being there with the Marantz ..the Sony has all the outstanding picture qualities that can make watching movies so enjoyable and involving but not quite up to the standard of the more expensive machine ..but you have to look closely and carefully to really notice the differences...comparing the two casually they appear the same!..which considering the price difference makes the Sony an unbelievably good bargain!!

Best Upscaling DVD Player
if you are looking for an upscaling player, on a budget and cannot afford a PS3 or the latest Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player then look no further.
This Sony rocks! the picture (and also audio if you consider investing on the latest surround sound kit. mine is a "plain" 2.1 setup and still it feels like im on a cinema!) is amazing. but this modle is now only £35.00 @ asda , i paid £80 for mine a few months back gutted!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this in the hope of acheiving HD quality picture from my normal DVDs. Here is what I found:
The DVD player:
Light but seems well built. Looks very stylish. Very easy to set up and use. So much better than those £20 DVD players from Asda.
The picture:
I have mine hooked up to a 42" Samsung Plasma. The picture is fantastic, but don't be fooled by the claims, IT IS NOT QUITE HD QUALITY. But it is better than standard and in my opinion it is worth the extra money, especially if you have a big screen TV.
Overall, I highly recommend this product. And being a Sony, I expect it to last for a long time. Well worth the money!
Best dvd/divx player I've ever had, 2009-02-22
Upscaling on this is pretty good for the cash. It's played every divx file I've tried on it & the way it 'remembers' where you stop a film is fantastic. I definitely recommend this player.
Razor Sharp And Works Hard. (No USB), 2008-11-03
With a Samsung 32 inch lcd this gives superb results, a nice little bargain at the price. 'Should have a USB 2 interface, so much more convenient than cd's. Highly intuitive. If you get a picture combination set-up you dig then settle with it - this dvd technology has built in obsolescence: they change HDMI protocols so your gear could be out of date while spanking new. DVD's are here to stay, however, so get two compatible products and stay with them. Music playback is sensational, classic as well as rock, very spacey and not fast, good depth.
