  Good for the cost, 2010-03-11
The machine is a good buy. It picks up sounds well and is straight forward to record.
However, it is not very easy to take the files from the recorder. It took us a while to get used to it, but now it is perfectly useable and good for the cost.

A very good product with good sound quality. Especially like the tape counter and the ability to adjust tape speed. Bought on the strength of reviews on cheaper products and was pleased to see that the extra money spent produced a product of better quality than cheaper models.

Sony TCM-200DV. Just the job., 2007-01-28
I bought this to replace a Sanyo which was stolen in Spain. I find the Sony to be of superior quality and considering the size of the loudspeaker, excellent playback quality too. The mic will pick up a little motor noise but this is an improvement over the Sanyo too. With a small remote mic I can record urban soundscapes eg. Market calls like "Come on Ladies, look at these luverly bananas, how about ten for 50p", in excellent quality although it is only mono, it is still good. Well it floats my boat anyway.

A steal at the price!, 2009-03-09
I have three digital recorders - Zoom H4, Marantz PMD 671 (both have rather poor mic pre-amps) and a couple of expensive condenser mics. Recently, I bought the brilliant Sony PCM D50 digital recorder which is simply out of this world! I've tried two examples of Sony's recommended microphone for this recorder, the MS-957. Don't waste your money. They were both as bad as each other! Seriously, you'll be sending it back because the noise floor on both mics I sampled was dreadful. The good news is that their semi-pro version of this mic, the MS-907 is sensational! NO background noise whatsoever. True, clean, accurate un-coloured sound ... and at less than half the price of it's costlier sibbling! Never mind the sales talk - trust your ears. If you are looking for a really good, battery powered "plug-in-power" electret mic for a digital recorder - the MS-907 is a steal! I record for a living - both in my home studio, but mostly in some of the best London studios around Soho ("Look Around You" narrator and "Papa" Dolmio in those pasta sauce TV commercials etc.) so I know what kind of sound these serious studios can produce. Plugged into a good digital recorder, the MS-907 can really hold it's own with the "big boys." This is now the only mic I use and if it got broken, I'd buy a new one tomorrow. Simple but brilliant mic. Can't recommend it highly enough.

A light weight tape recorder, most useful for conducting interviews of veterans of the WWII Greece & Crete campaigns. Unobtrusive. A plus is the cost. These recorders, and the micro cassettes has reduced. Simple to use. The downside is the tape recorder could chew through batteries, not to sure about this yet.

I am in a choir and use this recorder to tape our rehearsals. I find it very easy to use and the recordings are very clear and pick up all that I require. I would recommend this for all choir members and such like.

I bought this item for my Grandsons 9th Birthday and he was thrilled with it we send Audio Tapes to each other in order to stay in touch as we live 3000 miles apart. I have no experience with this particular Recorder, but he thinks that it works very well is very easy to use, and the noise level is minimal. For the price it is a very good recorder.
